Events, races and conferences

Websites for events, races and conferences.

You have advertised a date. Entries may already be open. The site needs to be ready before then, not shortly after.

We take on a limited number of projects each month.

    The one fixed thing

Every other client can move their launch. You cannot.

    • ENTRIES OPEN

Live and taking sign-ups before the date you advertised

    • EVENT WEEK

Changes go in the day you ask, not the next sprint

    • THE SPIKE

Built for the fortnight when everyone arrives at once

    • AFTER

Results, photos and next year's date, without starting again

    The hard part

Ten quiet months, then two very loud weeks.

An event site does almost nothing for most of the year. Then entries open, and it carries everything at once.

Everyone arrives in the same hour

Entries open at nine and the whole field turns up at once. A slow site loses people who were ready to pay.

They read it at five in the morning, on the day

Where to park, what time their wave goes, whether it is still on. Nobody is browsing. They want one fact, fast.

    The date moves

Weather, a permit, a venue. Something shifts and every mention of the old date has to change today.

    The committee turns over

Volunteers rotate. The person who knows the login leaves. The site still has to be run by whoever is next.

    Where the money goes

Keep the ticketing you have, or build the part that does not exist.

    Most events

Point at what you already use

Humanitix, Eventbrite, whatever your entries already run through. The site sells the event and sends people to it. No new account, no new fees, and your refund policy stays exactly where it is.

    Build what is missing

When the platform you already use stops short of what your event actually does, this is the part that gets built. Member logins, entrant lists, categories and waves, committee access, volunteer rosters. Toorbunna is that job.

Most events need the first one. Some need both. Tell me how entries run now and I will tell you which one you need.

    Proof

A club that runs bookings, events and votes on its own.

Toorbunna Ski Club member portal, built by Dolerite Digital

Toorbunna Ski Club is run by volunteers. Before the rebuild, bunk bookings arrived in somebody's inbox and member records lived in a spreadsheet.

The booking side runs itself now. A member signs in, sees what is free and takes it. No volunteer sits in the middle of that any more.

It went from first email to live in seven days. The database and the hosting account are registered to the club, not to me.

    The process

    How a week works.

    Day 0

    Tell me what you need

We go through what the site has to do, who it is for and what already works. No brief template, no discovery phase. You get a fixed quote in writing within two business days.

    Day 1–2

See the real site, not a mockup

Your site goes live on a private link. Not a design file, not a slide. The actual working thing.

    yourbusiness.com.au

    Day 3–4

    Change whatever you want

You tell me what to change. It gets changed.

    • Make the header photo biggerDone, 9 min
    • Change the phone numberDone, 2 min
    • Add a booking formDone, 40 min
    • Swap the About textDone, 4 min

    Day 5

Launch, then pick how you want to run it

We go live and I show you how everything works. Then you choose: I keep looking after it, or you take the keys and run it yourself. Either way it is yours.

    Most clients

    I look after it

From $30/month. Hosting, security, backups, monitoring. You never think about it again.

    You run it

Full handover. Domain, code, every account, plus written docs. No fee, no hard feelings.

Most sites are live within a week. Simple ones go within two days. The reason is not that I rush. It is that there is nobody to brief and no queue in front of you.

For an event, the date at the end of that week is your date, not mine. If entries open on a Monday, we work back from the Monday.

    Included

    What you get, every time.

    • Custom design, not a template
    • Written for your business, not filled with placeholder text
    • Works properly on a phone
    • Google Business Profile set up
    • Analytics installed
    • Contact forms that reach you
    • SSL and security
    • Fast loading, no plugin bloat
    • Search foundations done properly
    • A training session so you can run it
    • 30 days support after launch
    • You own the domain, the code and every account

    What it costs

No surprises, in writing, before we start.

A one page site for a conference and a full entrant system are not the same job, so a range here would tell you nothing useful. Tell me what the event needs to do and you get a fixed quote in writing within two business days.

“Matt took our 20-year-old website and turned it into something our members actually want to use. The booking system alone has saved us hours every week.”

    Who you are hiring

Twenty years of being the client.

Matthew Will, founder of Dolerite Digital

I co-owned Tasmania's largest pharmacy for twenty years and sold it in 2017, so I have been the client on plenty of these projects.

That is why you deal with me directly and get changes done the day you ask, rather than waiting on someone to check with someone else. The longer version is on the home page.

    Get started

    Let's talk about your site.

Tell me the date, roughly how many people, and whether entries run through something already. That is enough for a quote.
